unseasonable
new works about weather

The imprecision of truth is the great disappointment of science, where the edges of knowledge quickly come into focus with sharp observation. It is also the central motif in this current body of work, which relies on the impossibility of specific interpretation or a direct reference to a singular data set. Referencing meteorology and the graphical elements that accompany forecasts and sharing a visual commonality with topography and color semiotics, these new works are untrue the moment they are created and represent probabilities or false futures. My displays of information, leaning heavily on the work of Edward Tufte and Otto Neurath, are questions of aesthetic formality as well as the presumption that my audience will recognize a familiar meaning in the lines. My possible futures and aggregate pasts are drawings on polypropylene, acrylic and wax paintings on pine, audio installations, and digital videos. |
